Abstract
Purpose: To report the early result of open wedge high tibial osteotomy with allogenous bone graft in osteoarthritis patients of medial compartment of the knee.

Materials and Methods: Eighteen patients who performed the open wedge high tibial osteoto-my and the correction angle was more than 15¡£were enrolled in this study. All patients had taken weight bearing radiography preoperatively, at postoperative 2 weeks and at postoperative 1 year. We measured the degree of correction angle of genu varum by comparing the tibiofemoral angle of preoperative radiography and radiography at postoperative 2 weeks. We measured the loss of correction angle by comparing the tibiofemoral angle of radiographies at postoperative 2 weeks
and postoperative 1 year. To evaluate the clinical results of the knee, we compared the range of motion of the knee (Flexion contracture, Maximum flexion) and WOMAC scores (pain, stiffness, function) of preoperative status and postoperative 1 year.

Results: Tibiofemoral angle was improved from varus 9.67 degree to valgus 9.7 degree and it was not changed at 1 year follow up. As functional variables, range of motion of the knee was not changed, and WOMAC score was improved from 53.2 to 22.9 in every patients. No complication was checked.

Conclusion: In advanced osteoarthritis patients of medial compartment with severe genu varum, open wedge high tibial osteotomy with allogenous bone graft is a useful treatment method that leads to good results such as early weight bearing, functional recovery and pain relief of the knee without the loss of correction angle.
